Niall and I have been travelling together for nine years now. During that time we’ve developed little habits and routines that we fall into without thinking- from the way we pack our backpacks to our pre-flight beer ritual or daily game of afternoon cards (usually rummy).
Sitting in an airport together (currently sydney) feels familar. As does the usual melting pot of emotions- anticipation and excitement coupled with a hint of anxiety and wonder at what will greet you when you step outside those airport doors at the other end. First stop this time is Santiago, Chile! Although we don’t really know what to expect (we’ve researched this trip less than usual) we don’t imagine it will be more confronting than last year’s drive through Kathmandu, except perhaps for the whole spanish speaking thing. I guess we’ll find out in 18 hours or so.
